As a year ends and another begins
January 4th, 2007Last time I talked about the highlights of 2006 for me. This time, I’ll just be making short comments on the things that transpired during the last weeks of 2006 (from Christmas) and this first few days of 2007.
Our Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations have been getting simpler and simpler… but it isn’t necessarily a bad thing. For the past years, we usually just order some take out for our Christmas Eve dinner, then Mama makes her (very delicious) spaghetti for New Year. This year, we just had take out for both celebrations, and Mama made some potato salad (equally delicious) instead. So no spaghetti. And still, we are happy. Those who are probably used to big family celebrations, involving lots of relatives and guests, probably wouldn’t understand. But the thing is, we’re happy. Strange? Probably. But who cares? One thing I miss this year, though, was my Mama’s spaghetti. Maybe I could learn how to cook it so I can take over for her. Yeah, dream on! ^_^
I didn’t get much presents for Christmas, not that I was expecting any. Except for a certain violin promised by my sister… My mom gave me an advanced Christmas present, my new phone, an all-black Nokia 6600. It might not be the latest or the greatest, but it’s a smartphone, and it works! My relatives from the U.S. also sent some Christmas cash, which I spent to buy some books for myself. I guess those books were my gift to myself. And boy did I get them for a very nice deal. And I think they are very good books, too. Now I’m can go full speed ahead with my computer studies. Here’s a pic of some of the books I got:
New Year wasn’t so great for me, though. I decided to clean my room a few days before the year ended, just to get a fresh start. You should have seen the dust bunnies and cobwebs. I was able to successfully clean my room, but also got successfully sick… Needless to say, I wasn’t able to enjoy New Year’s day to the fullest. But at least I wasn’t bedridden or anything.
An unexpected gift also came to me just this week. I’ve been offered the position of an IRC operator in the #kubuntu user support channel. And I accepted. Now I have something really concrete to add to my list of Kubuntu contributions. Now I’m part of the Ubuntu IRC team! Part of the “requirement” for an Ubuntu IRC operator is becoming an Ubuntero, that is, an Ubuntu user who signed the Ubuntu Code of Conduct. So now I’m an Ubuntero, too! This takes me one step closer to World Domination!!!
So, what do I have planned for this first week of 2007? I’m basically blogging about the past, the present, and the future. I’ll be trying to organize my stuff, my new “jobs”, and my new schedule. I still can’t decide whether to put a “violin class” in my schedule, considering the violin isn’t here yet…
2007 looks mightily bright! I’ve never been this excited for a new year in my life (most of the time, I’m more excited for New Year’s Day itself, and ignore the rest of the year). Why am I excited? Next blog post…

Just some small updates, while I'm trying to get off my ass and migrate the site completely to Textpattern.
